(TRINIDAD, Colo.) – Despite temperatures on the opposite spectrum both days, the Lady Trojan softball team picked up three wins this past weekend. On Friday with temperatures never getting above 38 degrees, Trinidad swept Frank Phillips College 8-7 in eight innings and a 12-5 victory in five innings. Chelsey Runyon (2), Isabella Navarro (2), Shayla Felix, Olivia Muniz and Roni Beavers all hit home runs in the two game series.
Saturday, the Lady Trojans faced Garden City Community College where the temperatures were almost 30 degrees warmer and Trinidad came away with a split, losing the first game 9-1 before coming back to win the second game 12-10. TSJC could only muster four hits in game one against Garden City but came back with a vengeance in the second game getting 17 hits for the 12-10 win. Runyon hit a 2-run homerun, her third of the season in the bottom of the seventh inning to seal the win. Navarro and Katie Glaze also homered in the game.
The ten home runs on the season placed Trinidad State second in the nation and Runyon is ranked sixth in the nation with a batting average of .636. Navarro is 21st hitting at a .583 clip and Muniz is 24th in the nation hitting .571.
Trinidad State (3-1) travels to a Texas for a 9-game series over a four-day period with a doubleheader on Thursday against Midland College followed by five games at the Midland Classic. Sunday the Lady Trojans will play Frank Phillips College in Borger. TSJC's next home series will be February 16 against North Platte Community College and February 18 against Luna Community College. All home games will be at Southside Park.
