(TRINIDAD, Colo.) – One of the hardest working athletes to ever take the field in TSJC blue and gold will be taking her game to Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado this coming fall. Isabella Navarro recently signed her NCAA Division I National Letter of Intent to play for the Rams this coming season.
The Trojan shortstop holds every hitting record at Trinidad State and finished tied for second the nation in with 30 home runs this past spring. Her school records include being the all-time leader in runs scored (146), hits (177), doubles (36), HR (47) and batting average at .511 in her two years at Trinidad State. In 2016, she was named Region IX Freshmen-of-the-Year and in 2017 was selected as Region IX Player-of-the-Year. She also was selected All-Region two straight years. Working as hard in the classroom as on the field, Navarro is a two-time Academic All-American at TSJC. She is the first player in program history to sign a softball scholarship to play at the Division I level.
"I am so proud of Bella (Isabella) for reaching a goal that she set a long time ago," Trinidad State Softball Coach Steve Swazo said. "To get a D1 scholarship to her dream school, CSU - Fort Collins, where she wants to study Veterinary is just awesome. She deserves all the accolades she gets because of the time and work she put in these past two years. Bella is the epitome of a student athlete that put in the time in the classroom and on the field to be the athlete she is today. Breaking every hitting record at Trinidad State and being among the national leader in various hitting categories this past year, I couldn't be more proud of Isabella and only wish her much success at the next level."
Navarro will join a Ram team that was 28-22 this past season. CSU is coached by former Otero coach Jen Fisher.
