Trinidad State moved to .500 on the season with a weekend series win over Northeastern JC at Southside Park. The Trojans split day one, before taking a pair of games on Saturday to move to 19-19 on the season.
On Friday the Trojans dominated the first game. Teddi Garcia held the Plainswomen in check, recording five strike outs, on route to an 11-2 win. Gabby Gonzalez hit a pair of long balls to put the Trojans up and then Avellaka Arviso ended it in the fifth with a three-run shot over the center field fence. The second game was a different story. NJC held the Trojan hitters in check on their way to a 10-3 win.
On Saturday TSJC came out flat. The Trojans committed four errors in the first two innings and found themselves down 6-0 heading into the bottom of the third. Trinidad turned it around, however, scoring four in the third and five in the fourth as they picked up a 10-6 come-from-behind win. Avriso got the win in relief. The final game of the series was all Trojans. Home runs from Gonzalez, Alyssa McWilliams and Rachel Duran provided the firepower the Trojans needed and Arviso and Garcia combined to hold Northeastern in check. TSJC won the game 15-2
The Trojans are currently in second place in the region standings behind Lamar. TSJC (19-19, 11-9) will host Otero Junior College (19-17, 10-12) on Wednesday before traveling to face Northeastern Junior College (17-23, 9-15) for a doubleheader on Saturday and region leading Lamar (29-12, 19-3) for a doubleheader on Sunday.
