(ALAMOSA, Colo.) – Trinidad State competed in its first Indoor Track and Field meet in school history on December 3 in Alamosa. Three athletes represented the blue and gold at the 2016 Adams State University Early Bird Open held in the ASU High Altitude Training Center.
Maria Montes ran the 5000m and finished with a time 21:09.71. Nicolas Molina competed in two events, running the 800m in 2:09.80 and the mile in 4:54.53. Daniel Haymes did the 5000m in 16:34.41. All three are currently ranked nationally by the NJCAA, and each has the fastest times recorded for their events so far this season. "I'm very happy with how we started the indoor season," commented Coach Lauren Martin. "I think we showed we have the ability to do some impressive things this winter and spring."
The Trojan Track squad is looking for new members to join the team when it returns to the track in January.
"We are looking for athletes on either of our campuses to compete in Track and Field this spring for TSJC" said Athletic Director Mike Salbato. "We have some very athletic students who could compete for us in running, throwing or jumping events. We also have experienced coaches at each campus to train these students. We are doing our best to establish this program on the run, and will hopefully be looking to grow it in the future."
Indoor Track and Field will continue in January and February competing in meets in Albuquerque, Gunnison and Alamosa. The outdoor track season will then begin in March and run through May. For more information contact head coach Lauren Martin at 719-589-7068 or at firstname.lastname@example.org.
